Nicholas Koshkosh (b. Mariupol 1995)

“Flowers instead of Bombs”, 2022. Acrylic, oil and spray paint on canvas. 185×151 cm. Unframed.

The Ukrainian-born artist Nicholas Koshkosh has achieved international recognition for his colorful paintings. Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, he has used the war as a starting point in his paintings, where he has found his own unique way of imprinting various ancient symbols and creatures in his practice. His aesthetic language spans a multitude of references to biblical and mythical tales. The ancient tales are combined with cultural signs from the Slavic regions, Western symbolism and elements from contemporary mass culture. “Flowers instead of Bombs” was an exhibition held at Galleri Albert Contemporary in 2022, where Koshkosh had made this very work, which is offered at the auction.
